A piece of long-awaited opera will soon light up the Theatre Bridge!

Turku Theatre Bridge will, once again, take on a winter look inspired by the City Theatre’s programme. This year’s inspiration is the opera The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, a joint production by Turku City Theatre, Saaristo Opera and Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. The winter lighting for the bridge has been designed by opera set designer Jani Uljas and lighting designer Janne Teivainen. Implemented by the theatre’s set design and lighting departments. At the centre of Teatterisilta is a piece of the glittering city that the opera sets out to build in the desert. In the performance, utopia ultimately turns into dystopia, but the crossing of the Aura River is illuminated by the dream of a city of possibilities. The lights will be switched on on 28 November 2025 and will illuminate the river view until the end of January. The winter decorations on the Theatre Bridge have drawn their theme from the Turku City Theatre’s performances since 2018.
