Hope. Words. Actions.
Timo Ollila

  • Location: Turku Cathedral
  • Time: 3–6 December 2026, 4–10 pm

What traces do words and actions leave across the centuries?

Turku Cathedral will be illuminated in honour of the 750th anniversary of the Cathedral Chapter of the Archdiocese of Turku. Timo Ollila’s light installation Hope. Words. Actions. projects words onto the walls of this historic landmark, highlighting the significant influence of the Cathedral Chapter of Turku on Finnish society.

The spectacular light installation creates a connection between the past and the present. The words projected onto the cathedral walls speak of hope that has sustained generations and inspired faith in the future. They speak of the power of words, particularly evident in the emergence and development of written Finnish. They speak of the actions that have laid the foundations for Finnish education and culture, community spirit and well-being. The light installation invites visitors to pause and reflect on our shared history and the kind of future we can build together.

Timo Ollila is an experienced lighting designer who has worked extensively across a range of fields, including theatre, dance and concerts. He is particularly fascinated by the interplay between light, the laws of nature, technology and creativity.
