Grand Cœur (Big Heart)
Milosh Łuczyński

  • Location: Market Square
  • Time: 3–6 December 2026, illuminated throughout the event

A giant red heart pulses in the Market Square, in the heart of the city.

Milosh Łuczyński’s monumental Grand Cœur (Big Heart) is an illuminated inflatable sculpture. The eight-metre-tall installation will be erected in the Market Square, the city centre’s main meeting place. As darkness falls, the giant heart glows with a warm light, while during the day its bright red colour catches the attention of passers-by. The sculpture has previously been displayed outside the Grand Palais in Paris, among other locations. At Path of Light, it will glow in Turku, the Paris of Finland.

Inspired by pop art, the installation bears the message: “My heart is bigger than my fear”. The sculpture’s bold, simple form is paired with a sensitive message, inviting visitors to look within themselves. The installation raises fundamental questions about human nature: could we choose empathy and understanding over fear?

The universal symbolism of the heart also connects with social media culture. Hearts representing likes have become part of everyday communication, but has the ability to stay constantly connected come at the expense of genuine human connection? In the Market Square, Grand Cœur (Big Heart) brings people together in the same physical space, rather than in virtual reality, to experience art together.

Milosh Łuczyński is a multidisciplinary Polish artist. Drawing inspiration from popular culture, his art combines a wide range of forms of expression, from light and sculpture to performance art and traditional visual arts. Łuczyński’s works have been exhibited around the world. Grand Cœur (Big Heart) has previously been featured at light art festivals in France, including Blaye en État d’Art and Nuit Blanche. The concept for the installation was jointly developed by Milosh Łuczyński and Luz Mando.
