What happens when the power of light is in the hands of the audience?
Anže Kreč’s The Knot, located in the courtyard of Art House Turku, is an interactive installation that invites visitors to generate the energy needed to illuminate the artwork. The installation consists of ribbons of light twisted into a knot, glowing in shades of red, blue and white against the night sky. Electricity generated by three hand-operated generators brings the installation’s lights to life. The Knot combines technology and human-generated power to create a surprising installation that changes in response to its audience.
The Knot uses light art to make the flow of energy visible, revealing the connection between the physical and digital worlds. Visitors’ physical efforts are transformed into glowing light, demonstrating the power of collaboration. The installation reflects humanity’s compulsive need to maintain large systems, into which individuals and communities continually pour their resources.
