A Sparkling Christmas City

The long dark season calls for lights. Fortunately, Turku is decked out in spectacular lights every winter.

…3,2,1, and the lights come on! The Grand Opening of Christmas on November 29 makes the whole city centre shimmer

On the traditional Grand Opening of Christmas the Christmas lights are turned on in the Christmas tree in front of the Cathedral and all over the city centre.

The colourful Christmas parade, led by the Snow Queen, takes off from the Old Town and moves along the river to the Market Square and ends on Yliopistonkatu, which acts as the Christmas Street. There the Snow Queen will turn on the Christmas lights with her wand.

This year we celebrate the Christmas Opening on Saturday, November 28. Join us and enjoy the always thrilling celebration!

Seasonal lights brighten up the dark season

The seasonal lights, that are lit in different parts of the city in November, delight passers-by throughout the winter. You can find seasonal lights in the city centre, near the Cathedral, and in Kupittaa Park, among other places.

The lights around the bird pond in Kupittaa Park, with their Christmas characters, are a particular favourite among families with children!

Combine your evening walk with a visit to one of the illuminated Christmas city attractions. You are sure to find many familiar things, but always something new too!
